Artist Bio

Artist Emily Wenner, Idaho native and recent NYC resident, is getting a fresh start in her new painting studio located in Brooklyn.  As a young girl fascinated by tragic and romantic events, Emily continued to study art throughout school, and eventually received her BA in Fine Art, with an emphasis in drawing and painting, and a BA in Art Education.  In the midst of obtaining her degrees she bore her first child Josiah who is the inspiration to many of her creative endeavors.  Always striving to learn, she will continue studies of the human form at the Academy of Art University in Manhattan, and has plans to take a variety of local wine seminars this fall.

Currently Emily is working on masonite and wood in a series that reflects the relationship of mother and child in the process of travel.  In these paintings she reveals the reality of single parenthood, using birds with human features as subject matter.  “I often feel as if I am on the verge of insanity, constantly trying to find a balance as a working mother, artist, and social being.  Traveling to NY alone with my son helped me realize anything is possible, and I wanted to depict my emotions of this event in a series.”-Emily Wenner.  Upon completion of the mother bird pieces, the artist soon has plans of going back to oil on canvas for a completely new body of work, which will include larger scale pieces.

In 2009, Emily was selected for an artist in residence program, which gave her needed studio space in which she completed her largest painting to date of a surreal under ocean scene measuring six feet by twelve feet.  She enjoys working in all different sizes and feels it necessary as a developing artist to continually experiment.  Emily also has a passion for travel and doesn’t plan to stop after relocating to New York.  Her desire to travel is almost as intense as her love for art.  “Art and travel go hand and hand, and more than anything I want to teach my son the beauty of diversity through cultures around the world.”-Emily Wenner.

In addition to her passion for traveling, Emily strives to gain knowledge from new experiences, unique individuals, the art of wine, authentic foods, and taking risks in life and art.  Emily has had various Art Shows in galleries and coffee shops around Boise, and last year she participated in a touring show with artist Irene Deely that stretched from the mid-west and eastern states.  She plans to release a new body of work late Fall 2011 NYC.
